This pen holds the whole thymosin beta-4 molecule, a protein found in almost every cell in the body, which helps cells move and form new blood vessels. Elsewhere, the name TB-500 often means a small fragment of it.
Its trials in people mostly used eye drops, a wound gel or drips into a vein. None studied muscles or tendons.

Side effects and cautions

No published study has given thymosin beta-4 to people by injection under the skin. In a safety study, daily drips into a vein of up to 1,260 mg for 14 days were well tolerated.

In mice, melanoma cells made to produce extra thymosin beta-4 grew larger tumors and spread to the lungs four times as often.

The World Anti-Doping Agency bans TB-500 (thymosin beta-4) in sport at all times, so an athlete who is tested for doping and uses this pen risks a violation.

Allergy warning
