Side effects and cautions

Allergy warning
Don’t use PT-141 if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it or to anything else in the pen. Get help straight away if you have swelling of the face, lips or throat, trouble breathing, or a rash that spreads after an injection.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
PT-141 has not been studied in pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor before using it.
Medicines and health conditions
If you take any medicine or have a health condition, talk with your doctor before using PT-141, and tell them you use it.
Blood pressure and heart
PT-141 can raise blood pressure after a dose, usually for less than 12 hours. Its label rules it out for anyone with high blood pressure that isn’t controlled, or with heart disease.
Darkening of the skin
Patches of darker skin, on the face, gums or breasts, appeared in 38% of women after eight daily doses. Tell your doctor if you notice them.
Naltrexone
PT-141 can lower the level of naltrexone, a medicine for alcohol and opioid use, in the blood. Don’t use the two together without your doctor’s advice.
